Research suggests that energetic, inspired and competent school principals have successfully led teams in ensuring high student attainment and turning around even the low performing schools. While the criticality of the Principal's role is well understood and acknowledged, little or no effort or investment is made by individuals, schools or governments. While schools spend large amounts in creation of physical assets and marketing or showcasing the school, little attention is paid to the key and critical driver of school success; the School Principal.

Addressing this urgent and emerging need, Uttarakhand Technical University now offers India’s first and only program that prepares aspiring teachers to become effective principals over time. The university also offers diploma and certificate programs, in convenience mode, to working teachers and principals.

The program creates and builds partnerships with some of the best schools, teachers, principals, universities, regulators and policy makers. In doing so, it will bring to its classrooms a rich and diserving interaction with people , institutions and practices that would inform and inspire the program participants.
